Welcome to Alameda, California.
A city of west-central California mainly on two islands in San Francisco Bay near Oakland. It is a shipbuilding center and port of entry.
Alameda is called "The Island City," due to its location on a small island next to Oakland, California in the San Francisco Bay. An additional part of the island is called Bay Farm Island, which it shares with the Oakland International Airport.
The population of Alameda is approximately 72,000. Alameda is easily reached via Interstate 880, but once on the island, the speed limit is just 25 mph on almost every road (speeding tickets are a significant source of income for the city!) There are also two ferry services from the mainland to Alameda, and it's close to the BART train service, as well.
Often called the "Most Unique City in Northern California," Alameda's close proximity to the San Francisco Bay means it's a haven for wind surfers and kite surfers along its windy shores. Other activities in the area include hiking and biking, boating and sailing, sightseeing and shopping.

The region is overflowing with attractions such as the USS Hornet Museum and the Alameda Naval Air Museum. Across the Bay in San Francisco, visit Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, the Golden Gate Bridge, Ghiradelli Square and Pier 39, or take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island.
The 1,000 acre Golden Gate Park is home to attractions like the Japanese Tea Gardens, the Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and the whole area is filled with world class accommodations, restaurants and upscale shopping.
